Chris Rosenau and Jon Mueller became friends in the early 1990s. By the end of that decade, they had co-founded the “post rock” bands Pele and Collections of Colonies of Bees, both of which released numerous records and toured throughout the United States and Japan (via Polyvinyl Records/Table of the Elements in the US, Some of Us/Contrarede in Japan).

They later joined with band mates from these groups and vocalist Justin Vernon of Bon Iver to form Volcano Choir. Volcano Choir’s 2013 record  Repave debuted at number 40 on the Billboard charts. The group performed on the NBC show  Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, experienced multiple sold out tours in the US, Canada, and Europe, and performed at international festivals such as Primavera and Osheaga.

Today, Rosenau + Mueller’s musical relationship is strengthened by over 25 years of playing together in a myriad of configurations and situations. Rosenau’s signature guitar style seamlessly combines elements of traditional finger style and Americana with modern looping and other technology, while Mueller’s freeform approach to the drum kit combines unhinged jazz and direct rock sensibilities. Together, they express a real-time conversation through the language of sound and music in a way that only long-time friends can.
